Short answer: **be careful**. Cats lack some of the enzymes that process compounds in many oils.
What I do now: diffuse briefly, door open, and the cat can always leave the room. Sources in the replies.

Our vet said the same — the ability to leave the room is the important part.
Tea tree is the one to be most careful with, from everything I've read.
